While we do provide farm datasets and lists, we’re more than simply a list company. Not only do we provide web applications powered by our data, we also provide end-to-end email and programmatic marketing services and data appending.

Where do you get all this data?

Our data comes from a collection of public and private sources, some of which are proprietary to Farm Market iD. There is no other location for the comprehensive collection of data that we offer to agribusiness professionals. Sources include annual FSA reporting, subsidy payment splits, remote-sensed data, California Pesticide Use Permits, County Ag Commissioner Reports, GIS Satellite Imagery, Common Land Unit (CLU) field boundary attribution, FOIA requests (20-30 annually), and NCOA/PCOA address standardization and phones (411 directory) – all updated quarterly.

What other companies have CLU data and how is it different than what we have?

Farm Market iD sued the USDA in 2005 disputing the denial of fully attributed CLU data. We maintained that this was required to be released in order to comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The U.S. Circuit Court disagreed and sided with the USDA. Farm Market iD appealed the decision in early 2008. The appellate court ruled in favor of Farm Market iD. The courts agreed that the public’s rights to transparency regarding government programs took precedence over a participant’s privacy rights in these voluntary programs. The data was then immediately released per Farm Market iD’s pending FOIA requests. This provided us with a full nationwide footprint of approximately 34 million CLU boundaries representing over 800 million acres of ground cover. How do you keep your data updated?

We keep our data updated through a collection of public and private data sources that allow us to update the ownership and operatorship of the fields. Since the land doesn’t move, there are three things that can effectively happen to the boundary/polygon over time: It’s sold/transferred to another person/entity (most common) Two CLUs are combined to become one One CLUs are divided to become two or more Through a combination of FOIA requests and public records deed data, we’re able to connect/reconnect new owners and operators to the land.

How is your data compared to or different from publishers like Farm Journal, Progressive Farmer, Penton, etc.?

Farm Market iD has more records. Our data is more current, more accurate, and more accurate. By comparison, Farm Journal’s 2016 audit statement states that they have 345,081 records versus Farm Market iD’s 1.9 million. Further, Farm Journal’s statement indicates that only 46 percent have been directly updated and/or confirmed within the last twelve months; whereas, 100 percent of Farm Market iD’s data is updated each year. Finally, Farm Market iD’s data is detailed down to the field level and de-dupes acres so you can distinguish “John Doe” from “John Doe Farms.”
